October 2014 Fur friend of the month – Shoko from The Canadian Cats
Yes we know it is November, but our Michelle did not have much time for us and well that is another story, but do not worry fur friends she has had a few paw slaps ๐ Anyway …
Shoko what a beautiful name and what does it mean? ย this and many more questions have been answered in today’s interview with the famous moggie from The Canadian Cats ๐ purrrr
So Shoko we must say you are one beautiful moggie Purrfect ๐ MEOW
What country are you from? How did you come to your forever home?
I am from Canada…to be more specific, the beautiful province of British Columbia. I was a about 3 to 4 weeks old when mom adopted me. I had been living on the streets of this city with my mom and brother. The SPCA picked us up one day and put us all into a cage. My biological mom couldn’t stand this and flipped out and started growling and attacking me and my brother. Unfortunately she had to be put down. I was quite unhappy. This one day a lady peep walked into the room and stopped in front of my cage. She asked the volunteer if she could hold me and the volunteer handed me to this lady. She looked me all over like I was a fresh mouse she was going to eat. So I hissed at her….the nerve of this peep! My hiss came out as “haaaaa”. She returned me to the volunteer and walked away. The next day she showed up again and held me again the next day…looking me up and down and from stem to stern….once again I hissed, my fierce hiss. This time she said, “I like a kitty with spirit.” We then went to my forever home.
How did you come by the name?
I was very young when I came to live with mom and dad and they kept calling me, “Little One.” Mom said after about 2 weeks,we better name her or she’ll be answering to Little One. So dad looked up the meaning of Little one in Japanese and found the name Shoko. That’s why Shoko is my name. I had mom look up the meaning of Shoko when I got older and it means, “Auspicious child.” Woo hoo I’m on my way to being successful!! OK, I’m still small but a handful to say the least.
Do you live with other animals?
I live with my adoptive sister Kali. Kali is a flame point Siamese. She is 12 years old and the gentlest kitty I have ever met. She put up and stills puts up with my antics when I play pretend and superhero. She is not a healthy kitty but she purrs at the drop of a hat. I couldn’t want a better sister.
What is your favourite treat?
I used to love Temptations…chicky flavour. Kali couldn’t digest them properly so mom switched to Hypoallergenic treats…they were OK in a pinch but definitely no big thrill. So mom found these dried chicky treats. Kali can eat them too as long as she doesn’t make an oinker of herself.. They are delish!
Who is your Superhero?
My superhero is Superman. He can do most everything any other hero can do and way more. The Flash runs really fast but so does Superman. I love to dress up as Superman and rescue Kali from the speeding vacuum. I have a cape which mom puts on and I’m set.
You know as I get older I’m thinking maybe mom is a Superhero too. She does a lot for Kali and me. She helps me with my blog and takes me to visit my friends on Cat Scouts. She also takes Kali and I for walks so we can see the neighbourhood and what’s happening in it. Mom has made Kali and me our own albums so when I’m upset or scared I can listen to relaxing music. My album is called, “Shoko’s Sensational Sounds.” Kali’s album is,”Kali’s Mellow Moments.” Mom also sits with Kali when she is sick….she sits on the floor and holds Kali until the pain passes or Kali is not as upset. So I know if I ever get sick, mom is there to love me, no matter what.
What is a typical day for you?
A normal day starts with me getting up early…usually around 7:30am now that its so dark in the mornings. I clean my face like Kali taught me and always do behind my ears…well, if I’m not in a hurry. Then I head for the Hypo-allergenic crumble. It’s pretty good for hypo-allergenic stuff. Mom is starting to mix a little Siamese dry food in with it now. Kali seems to be able to tolerate a little. I pick most of the Siamese stuff out cause it is to die for, its that good. Then its outside to visit with my friends. I am a Cat Scout so mom and I go to the site for Cat Scouts and talk with my other friends. When Kali is up and about I usually hang with her for awhile. She doesn’t really say when she’s not feeling well but if she’s active, she’s usually feeling pretty good. About 8pm mom heads off to the bedroom and we follow because its Story Time. Mom usually reads for an hour or two and we curl up bedside her. That’s my typical day.
Tell us something about you that you have not shared before
Oh, that’s a hard one….I talk a lot so I’m not sure. I never told anyone that if Kali wants my food I will give it to her because she is older than me. Oh, also my secret desire is for Kali to let me sit on mom’s walker. Kali has never allowed me on it but one day she will let me.
Thank you for taking the time out and sharing about yourself Shoko ๐ Please give a big hug to Kali from us all.
Thanks boys and Michelle.
